Wednesday, November 10, 2010
A PRISONER masterminded the delivery of yah ba and yah ice worth more than two million baht on Phuket by mobile telephone from jail, police said yesterday.

The Narcotics Suppression Bureau combined with Phuket police to arrest the people they said were the key players the methamphetamines ring in Phang Nga and Phuket City - and the kingpin in jail in Prachinburi Province has probably lose his telephone.

A call to a telephone number provided to police brought Amphon Ratchaniyom, 47, on the line even though he was in jail, a media presentation at Provincial Hall in Phuket City was told yesterday.

Police said Khun Amphon, who gave no clue that he was behind bars, referred the drug-seeking undercover detective to the telephone number of Saichon ''Mo'' Nison, 34, who he said would deliver the 10,000 yah ba pills valued at 1.5 million baht and 200 grams of yah ice worth 560,000 baht on November 8.

On Tuesday, Khun Mo called to say she was ''on the way'' to Phuket on a bus and would meet her contact in Kokloi, Phang Nga, at 3.30pm. Detectives met Khun Mo and declared themselves to be police.

Acting on instructions, she telephoned Chalit ''Nong'' Cherrtchoopat, 25, andf arranged to meet him in Room 09 at the Hotel 999 in the Phuket City suburb of Poonpol. At 7.30pm that evening, police raided the room.

Khun Nong took off through a window but was quickly apprehended, police said. They garnered 11,437 yah ba pills and 200 grams of yah ice.

Khun Nong and Khun Mo confessed to their roles in the unusual drugs smuggling network.

Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha, Vice Governor Niwit Aroonrat and Phuket Police Commander Major General Pekad Tantipong attended yesterday's media presentation.
