FC PHUKET'S newly reconstituted team came through ''friendly fire'' from Thailand's most illustrious side last night to show that the ''Hulks'' have the skills to do well in Division One this season.
Going down 3-2 to Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United will allow FC Phuket supporters to dream about a premiership this season - and perhaps even a draw in the replay match with the national champs on Thursday night.
FC Phuket and Muang Thong U have a long association through their management and coaching streams, and Phuket will be seeking to emulate at least in part the remarkable feat of Muang Thong which won Division Two in 2007, Division One in 2008, and the Premier League in 2009 and 2010.
For those who want to see Thailand's top team in action and assess the chances of FC Phuket to follow in their illustrious footsteps, admission is free at Surakul Stadium in Phuket City on Thursday when the replay game begins at 6pm.
Last night's first free-flowing first encounter did nothing to discourage Phuket. Down by 3-1 at halftime, the ''Hulks'' puffed up a size or two and fought back to come within a single goal.
Perhaps Muang Thong were toying with the FC Phuket team a little, but the ''Hulks'' have done enough to prove they will be competitive and cannot be underestimated in 2011.
FC Phuket's tilt at the Division One title begins on February 13.
