Phuket's Police Chief Injured in Car Crash

UPDATE

Early reports said the crash occurred at the Tesco-Lotus intersection but we've now discovered it actually came at the Thepkasattri Road and bypass road intersection.

PHUKET'S police chief is being treated for a dislocated hip after a collision on the island's bypass road.

Major General Pekad Tantipong was injured as he was being driven to Phuket International Airport.

Phuketwan understands that Major General Pekad, who is based at Phuket City, was on his way to greet the Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, who arrived on Phuket today at 9.09am on Thai Airways TG201.

The crash came at the Tesco-Lotus intersection. The major-general's vehicle was turning from Sam Kong towards the airport, which the other vehicle was swinging right to head for Patong.

Major General Pekad was operated on at Phuket International Hospital, just down the bypass road from Tesco-Lotus.

Khun Abhisit arrived on Phuket this morning to open the Democrat Party MPs convention, being held amid tight security at the Merlin Beach Resort Phuket, south of Patong.

Wonder if this will be catalyst for an increase in the enforcement traffic violations?

Hope he has a speedy recovery and what a horrible day to be injured.

With an overpass or underpass, that accident would not have happen. Right?
We may have the best advocate to improve roads in Phuket.

As the Tesco Lotus junction is a traffic light, does it imply one of the vehicles was running a red light ??

I wondered who was in town as I was nearly forced off Chao Fa road today by a convoy of vehicles coming down the middle of the road at some stupid speed.

I once almost got sideswiped by the Asean contingent traveling at an insane rate of speed coming around a blind curve. It would have been a nasty 5 or 6 car pile up.
No respect for inertia.
