PHUKET: Phuket's first woman vice-governor arrived at Provincial Hall in Phuket City today to meet the Governor and begin work.
Dr Sommai Preechasin, 57, was with Vice Governor Jamleran Tipayapongtada from Sisaket province, who also met Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha.
The Governor - himself a Vice Governor on Phuket before his promotion to the top job - told his two new VGs that he was glad to have them arrive. He and lone Vice Governor Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak have been fully occupied since their two colleagues departed in October.
''Phuket is quite different to other provinces,'' Governor Tri said. ''It has its share of problems and the tourism aspect means there is no shortage of issues. However, it's an extrmely pleasant place to live.''
Vice Governor Dr Sommai said she understood Phuket would be a different assignment to the Isarn province of Mukdahan. It was her first appointment to Thailad's south, she said.
''I will appreciate your advice on the best way to go about the job,'' she said.

Interesting. Here's something she could usefully do...sort out the mains water supply or rather lack of. For 5 consecutive days this year (and it's only 9th today) there has been no mains supply to the area of Patong where I live. Amazing that property building continues...but Mains Water cannot be supplied to existing properties. Wonder what it will be like 5 years hence !!!
