Graceful and romantic, Sarasin Bridge is Phuket's newest attraction

Phuket's Bridge of Dreams: Photo Special

Monday, August 22, 2011
PHUKET: Boys swim naked in the water. Children run up and down the steps. Local food is available at stalls. The views are excellent.

Phuket's old Sarasin Bridge - or at least the old bridge that Phuket shares with the neighboring province of Phang Nga - is already attracting sightseers.

It's already evident that this tourist gem will become a new symbol for the Phuket region.

Now that a new bridge carries the traffic off the island, Sarasin has a role as a walking link, topped by a graceful sala and definitely on the list of Phuket experiences.

Sunsets must be pretty good from here. Local food stalls are already appearing on both sides.

Workers are still applying the finishing touches, with a narrow ladder their path to the sala.

Phuket's new ''Bridge of Dreams'' is expected to be complete by August 30.

Rumor has it the streets on the southern end of the Bridge of Dreams are paved with gold. I wouldn't be one to disagree.

Really like the photos and the new bridge looks a peach. The new walkway is a fantastic idea. Let's hope that someone in authority has the good sense to put in Garbage Bins with Ashtrays so that this beauty spot stays beautiful.

@Graham
I agree about the garbage bins, but what about declaring it a smoke&alcohol free zone, like the opposite end of the island? No ashtrays needed :-)
