Big bike, small dog. Just one of many intriguing sights at a Phuket park

Phuket's Big Bike Parade: Photo Special

Sunday, December 19, 2010
ABOUT 400 big bikes took to roads around Phuket yesterday and the thunder eventually settled at Phuket City's Saphan Hin park, where the machinery could be viewed up close.

What could be more appropriate for a big bike than a small dog? The motorbikes came in all shapes and sizes, with some that appeared to defy gravity, if not other rules and regulations.

The Great Southern Big Bike rally aimed to support the Phuket ''100 percent wear a helmet'' campaign and last night, a candlelight ceremony was scheduled to celebrate the 83rd birthday of HM the King.

Riders came from all over southern Thailand and beyond, with Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha pictured on a big bike on a promotional poster, and Chalong Police Superintendent Colonel Vichid Intharasorn joining the parade on a Harley.

Phuketwan supports Mothers or Motorcycles (MoM, an action group established to encourage all riders to wear helmets.

Great to see all the motorbike riders supporting the helmet law. Worried me a bit, the little dog in the bag. The on going support is so important, and with the enforcement on January 1 in Patong.
Ride on.
