Phuket 'Wrong Room' Tourist Plunges to Death

Sunday, February 14, 2010
UPDATE

Airline V Australia, which recently set up services to Phuket, released a statement saying:"'It is with the deepest sorrow that we confirm the loss of one our team members in accidental circumstances whilst off duty in Phuket yesterday evening. We have no further comment to make as our priority at this time is to protect the privacy and offer our support to our crew member's family at this very sad time.''
Original Report

AN AUSTRALIAN tourist has plunged five storeys to his death in a mysterious incident at a popular five-star resort on Phuket.

The man fell about 3am today, police said, after attempting to enter the wrong room at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa at Karon, the beach destination to the south of Patong.

Colonel Boonlert On-klang, of Chalong police station, named the man as Nathan Edwards, 25, of Adelaide.

The colonel said that about 3am, Mr Edwards returned to his resort and intended to go to his room. His room number was 5105 but he found himself in another building, where he tried his keycard in the door of Room 515.

He heard noises inside, and knocked and kicked on the door, Colonel Boonlert said.

The man and woman inside Room 515, a couple from Syria, called security but did not open the door.

By the time security reached the scene, the man had apparently fallen from the exterior walkway to the ground below, Colonel Boonlert said.

Mr Edwards' body is at Vachira Hospital in Phuket City and will be sent to Bangkok tomorrow for a full autopsy. Embassy officials have been informed.

The Hilton at Karon has about 700 rooms spread through several buildings in a garden setting.

He should have assumed the "brace" position.

Colleen, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. That is such a disgusting comment.. As someone who knew Nathan, I find it utterly offensive and so disrespectful.. To make fun of this tragic event is revolting.. You are repulsive..

Anonymous, at least Colleen didn't make any jokes featuring the phrase, "cabin crew set doors to 'automatic'". Now that really would have been in bad taste...

David, Colleen how dare you both, I agree with anonymous. You guys are repulsive. You obviously have no hearts, also as a very close friend of nathans who is constantly reading up on this tragedy, to read your responses makes me truley sick. Keep your thoughts to yourself, Nathan did'nt deserve this and his family don't deserve to read that!!!!!

Colleen's and David's posts were obviously "spoof" ones and riddled with black humor and probably show more understanding than you or anyone lese who wants to jump up and criticize them. Spoofs they were and, to continue in the same black vein of humor, you fell for it.
