Former President of the Phuket Real Estate Association, Tanan Tanpaiboon, said a similar idea for a ferry between Bangkok and Pattaya failed because of the waves.
''Any ferry that heads along the coast in that manner will suffer from the side-on action of the waves,'' he told the meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall in Phuket City.
He added that travel times would be extended by bad weather.
Transferring luggage from a pier near the airport to a vessel and then again from a vessel to a pier in Patong posed logistical difficulties, he said.
The ferry proposal would require construction of a pier near the airport at great cost and most passengers would still have to catch a taxi in Patong.
Vice President of the Phuket Tourist Association, Sarayuth Mallam, said a questionnaire inviting opinions about the project was phrased in such a way as to encourage support without mentioning safety issues and other concerns.
Phuketwan has pointed out that the most important marine project on Phuket for now is expansion of the deep sea port, so that more cruise ships can bring more quality tourists.
Ed, I noticed no comment about KhunTanan Tanpaiboon, being a doomsayer or pessimist, not the slightest bit of optimism, with people, thinking like him, how can Phuket move forward...

Still struggling to understand the difference between objective journalism and comment/opinion, Phuket_IOC . . . if you move forward, perhaps even suggest one fresh constructive idea, perhaps Phuket can follow YOUR example and also move forward. (I know you enjoy capitals.)
