PHUKET: The body of a German man was found in his room at a Patong apartment block last night, Patong police said today.
A receptionist found the 51-year-old man, dressed only in shorts, lying on the bed at the PJ Check-In Mansion, about 7pm. Officers said he had been dead for about 40 hours.
Police took away two empty beer bottles, an ashtray and a pack of cigarettes from a bedside table, but say the man's death does not appear to be suspicious. They also found asthma medication.
''He had been in the apartment for a month,'' a staffer said. ''He liked Thai whisky and beer. He joked that if he didn't drink beer, his cough would grow worse.''
Phuketwan has been supplied with the man's name but is withholding publication until his family has been notified.
