Italian Fernando Rota was riding along a road in Phuket City about 2am on February 15 when the three came up alongside him, said Phuket Chief of Police, Major General Pekad Tantipong.
The Italian, recovering from the fall off the motorcycle on a road in Rassada, tried to run but was caught then beaten, Major General Pekad said.
Mr Rota was also pistol-whipped around the head.
Presenting the three accused to the media today at Phuket City Police Station, Major General Pekad said two of the accused were aged 16 and 17 and as minors could not be identified.
The attackers made off with Mr Rota's cash, passport and telephone.
The third accused was named as Pongpan Bamrungphon, 26. All three have been charged with robbery with menace and possession of an illegal weapon.
Another 17-year-old who could not be named was presented today and accused of robbing people at Saphan Hin park in Phuket City on December 16 and December 17. The boy, arrested on March 23, had a record of similar crimes, Major General Pekad said.
Veerayot Kerdmongklon, 25, was arrested on March 24 and accused of having an illegal gun. Police suspect he is responsible for recent reports of a man with a gun firing a gun in the air around Phuket City.
His brother Veeradath, 24, was arrested at the same time for possession of 14 yah ba tablets.
What this country needs is to start disciplining these little miscreants. If they really wanted to "Correct" their errant behavior, they should bring the Rotung into the arena and public floggings could become the norm.
Then watch the attitudes change here, reu reu.
Editor: Were you born in the 18th century? Sounds neo-colonial and primitive to me. When your concept gets adopted for ''miscreants'' in the West, perhaps it will be considered for Phuket.
