A BRITISH tourist has drowned after going for a swim at Phuket's Bang Tao beach early today.
The man was to be a guest at a wedding on Phuket tomorrow, and he and friends had been enjoying a traditional prenuptial stag night. The wedding group was in shock today.
The man and five friends all went for a drink at a reggae bar. Early today they headed back along the beach towards the Best Western Allamanda Laguna Phuket, where they had been staying for about two weeks, police said.
The six went for an early morning dip in the dark, an officer from Thalang Police Station told Phuketwan. Then the group discovered that one friend was missing.
The visitors sought the help of security guards nearby at the Banyan Tree Phuket. The security guards joined the search and the man's body was found about 5.30am, an officer said.
His body is at Thalang Hospital. Phuketwan has been given the man's name but is waiting until relatives are notified before publishing it.
