A YOUNG woman from Phuket was one of two Banyan Tree employees killed when terrorists attacked hotels, a restaurant and other targets in the Indian city of Mumbai last week.
A monk and members of her family said prayers over the casket of Jirachat Kanmanee, 28, when it arrived at Phuket Airport this afternoon.
The body of Khun Jirachat was to be taken to Chalong temple where farewell ceremonies will be held.
Uniformed representatives from Banyan Tree were among those at the airport when the casket was returned.
The first Banyan Tree resort was established in 1994 on Phuket as part of Laguna Phuket. Banyan Tree has since grown to be a global brand, with headquarters in Singapore.
Banyan Tree issued this statement today:
''The management and staff at Banyan Tree Spa and Angsana Spa are deeply saddened by the deaths of two of our colleagues who lost their lives in the horrific terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
''One of our Thai therapists, Ms Jirachat Kanmanee, and a local Indian spa receptionist, Ms Ami Thakkar, died while they were working at our spa in the Oberoi Hotel.
''We extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to their families during this difficult time. Our thoughts, support and prayers are with them as we share their loss and sorrow.
''The rest of our Thai colleagues at the Oberoi Spa in Mumbai are safe and have been evacuated home with the assistance of the Thai embassy and local government agencies.
''Our hearts go out to all, and in particular to the people of India, who are affected by this terrible tragedy.''
It is understood four other Thais who worked in the spa have been evacuated safely from Mumbai.
Terrorists executed a series of attacks on Wednesday on the Oberoi, the Taj Mahal Hotel, a restaurant, the railway station and the Jewish centre, killing 101 and injuring about 280 people.
