AN HONEST Patong tuk-tuk driver? Sure. Treeratana Passadung, 41, took a customer from the Jungceylon shopping mall to the Phuket Yacht Club Puravarna at Nai Harn about midnight last night.

He didn't realise until this morning that the guests, a couple aged about 30, had left a bag in the back. One of Khun Treeratana's children was exploring early and asked him: ''Dad! Dad! What's in the bag in your tuk-tuk?''

Khun Treeratana opened the bag, and found two rings, still in their presentation cases, two new ladies' handbags, one pair of sunglasses, a pair of gloves, and a bill for 5600 baht.

''This is not the first time people have left goods in the tuk-tuk,'' said Khun Treeratana. ''It's actually the fifth time for me.

I've given back the goods each time. I remember cameras, and an iPod . . . I've had to look at the cameras to see which customer it was who left their stuff behind.''

Khun Treeratana, who has been a tuk-tuk driver for five years, today handed the latest goodies to Phuket Governor Wichai Praisa-ngob, who will pass the bag on to police. They will call the Phuket Yacht Club, and ask the guests to collect their possessions from the governor's office in Phuket City.

Governor Wichai said: ''It's good to hear that some tuk-tuk drivers are honest and tourists can rely on them to return goods if they happen to leave them behind.''
