PHUKET: Heavy rains doused Phuket City overnight and organisers of today's Phuket Games 2012 opening ceremony will be hoping grey leaden skies clear before 5pm.
Thousands of athletes and onlookers from all over Thailand will be gathered at Surakul Stadium in Phuket City as the 28th National Youth Games begin, heralding competition in 40 sports around Phuket until June 5.
Phuket's Meteorological Bueau forecasters said today there would be a 60 to 70 percent chance of rain through until Monday, when skies are expected to be brighter.
The winds will range between 15 and 35 knots, with waves up to two metres. People in small boats have been advised to exercise caution.
The Phuket Games, a showcase for Phuket's virtues, were first planned for January but postponed to May because of last year's Bangkok floods.
