FC Phuket Sensation: Rain May Mean Replay

Tuesday, April 26, 2011
FANS OF FC Phuket are being given a rollicking ride today as officials debate whether to replay a match that the ''Hulks'' lost 2-5 on Sunday.

That's one of three options being reviewed by Division One powerbrokers after a severe storm led to the match against Bangkok FC being rained off seven minutes from final time.

A decision is expected later today as officials look at three options:

..Play the entire match again;

..Play the missing seven minutes (plus extra time) in Bangkok;

..Play the missing seven minutes when Bangkok meets Phuket in Phuket.

Extraordinary! But wait, there's more. FC Phuket team consultant Narubets Ayurong says that it was not just the appalling conditions at Bang Mod stadium that contributed to Phuket being blown away on Sunday.

The old team bus did not help, he said. FC Phuket was due to get a new VIP bus this season, but so far they've been stuck with the old one.

It's slow and cramped for leg-room. And, said Khun Narubets, it didn't help that the Phuket players were kept awake almost all night the night before the game by noise from a neighboring concert.

Perhaps at long last the real reason for Phuket's appalling performance on the road this season is emerging: lack of leg-room and sleep.

A decision about what happens next is expected this evening. Meanwhile, the Phuket boys are still out there somewhere, probably cramped for leg-room and in need of a good night's rest.

They left Bangkok on the old bus for Phuket and home at 8pm last night, but have yet to be sighted.

FC Phuket's next game, weather permitting, will be at home at Surakul Stadium in Phuket City against Thai Honda at 6pm on Sunday May 1. A big crowd is anticipated.
