Panuwaut 'Night' Assana, 19, and Jakkrapong 'Mew' Srisawang, 18, surrendered on Sunday and are being questioned by Chalong police but Khun Night maintains he fired the gunshot that killed in self-defence. Both are accused of murder.

Original Report

PHUKET: Police are hunting a young man who killed a waiter from a well-known Phuket restaurant with a single shot from a homemade gun early today.

Korwith Sriboonma, 18, finished his shift at the Sala Loi Seafood restaurant on Rawai's beach road in Phuket's south and went for a drink with friends at his house.

One friend, Surachart Pitlaratae, 18, headed home on his motorcycle but was pestered by four members of a teen gang along the way.

One threw a beer bottle in front of his bike and at his home, they yelled insults at his parents.

Khun Surachart, incensed at the gang's behavior, rode back to tell Korwitch what had happened.

Khun Korwitch shared his friend's anger and went looking for the teen gang, confronting them at a local Family Mart where they all denied any involvement in the argument with Surachart and his parents.

According to police, Korwitch headed home again but spotted a friend outside a 7-Eleven shop in Viset Road.

He waited outside for the friend as she went inside to do some shopping, police said. However, as he waited, the gang rode past and spotted him.

They pulled over and parked, police said.

In a second confrontation, one of the gang pulled a home made thai pradit gun and killed Khun Korwitch instantly with a single shot to the chest about 12.45am.

The gang rode off. Khun Korwitch's body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.

Security camera footage recorded Khun Korwich falling to the ground, but the gunman was outside the range of the lens.

Police say they are looking for three suspects and may release their names later today.

Witnesses.

A quartet of real heroes. I guess having the victim outnumbered 4 to 1 was not quite good enough odds for them, so they hurried home and came back with a gun.

Could be any country in the world, Dave. Perhaps you could be generous for once and mourn the needless loss of a young man, who appears to have done nothing to deserve his fate.

You're an ignorant bigot, Inepto, a know-all who actually knows nothing. People who spout your kind of sewage are the reason for most of the world's problems. Goodbye.

Given the complete lack of police prescence at night in a part of the world where the very rich and the very poor co-exist, it is actually quite admirable that the crime rate is as low as it is. I can not help but think that if the police took the initiative to stop the nightly teenage motorbike drag races on Viset, these type of teens might learn some boundaries. Also think that perhaps police manpower might be more effectively employed. Using 12 Officers ( I counted ) to check helmets and licences at the Kata Saiyuan 3 way, three times a week is clearly not working to reduce crime in the area. The Chalong Police bare some responsibility for this tragedy.
