PHUKET'S roads were crowded to capacity today as the final tranche of schools went back after the extended Songkran holiday.
From now on, the peak hours to avoid will be when schools open around 8am in the morning and when they close about 4pm in the afternoons.
The effect on traffic is quite pronounced because of the numbers of vehicles involved.
There are 31,083 students now at Phuket's 93 schools, kindergartens and colleges.
A total of 15,031 of those are boys, with 16,052 girls, education authorities told Phuketwan today.
Those totals include international schools primarily for expats, Muslim and temple schools, and schools for the disabled.
One of the largest schools is the King's Garden School in Phuket City, with 2158 students.
Stree Phuket High School, also in Phket City, has 3344 students.
That Chat Chai primary school, in the island's north, has 140 students. Saku school, in Naithon, also to the north, has 77 students.
