The man with four names and three million baht in valuables

Phuket Resort Raider: Reward Offered for Man With Four Names

Friday, January 18, 2013
PHUKET: A reward is being offered for the arrest of a Danish man wanted for robbing a Phuket resort of more than three million baht in valuables this week.

Police at Karon beach on Phuket's holiday west coast today released a graphic image of the man, who carries a Danish passport but may have been born in Turkey.

Police based the image on security camera footage from the tourist hub of Patong, north of Karon, where the man hired a motorcycle.

The man, who had been staying at the Kanjana Hotel in Patong, robbed the Karon Place hotel early on Monday by stealing the contents of safety lockers in the reception area.

Karon police confirmed today that the man - who has used four first-names but whose surname is unknown - drugged a male receptionist by spiking a beer.

Robert, Michael, Tony or Pheilpes, as he is known, befriended the night shift receptionist and shared some grilled chicken early on Monday morning.

When the receptionist fell asleep, the raider opened 21 of 56 lockers to steal cameras, cash, passports and other valuables woth a total of 3,100,000 baht. he disabled the security camera computer and fled.

The owner of the hotel has offered a 20,000 baht reward. Police are chasing a variety of leads but fear Robert, Michael, Tony or Pheilpes may have already fled Phuket.

Police have discovered that he was staying at the Kanjana Hotel in Patong's Nanai district.

A similar raid on a resort's safety deposit boxes took place earlier this month on Samui.

And where is the "released ... graphic image of the man"? May be someone among readers had met or will meet the men

An audacious, well conceived and well executed crime providing a story of a different class than most of what Phuketwan doing its job as well as it does daily provides. But it is a crime and may the authorities get the audacious, clever perpetrator. And best to the poor guy receptionist relaxing in the quiet hours with some chicken and a beer.

Quite clearly it's the Hollywood actor Owen Wilson. His career must really have gone downhill lately if he's been reduced to this.

Hmm.. The value is 3,1 miljon THB in 21 boxes. That is an average value of 147619 THB/box. Sounds very much in my ears. Is that really correct?

Good point and worth the arithmetic.

Yes Soligen, Well done on the arithmetic ,But its actually not such a high value per box .
A good camera = 12,000 thb
Spending money for family = 90,000 thb at least
Jewellery = could anything but at least 20,000 thb .

So as you can see it adds up very quickly and if you add in the cost of passport replacement then that value is easily reached.

Looks like a special forces type, if the graphic is accurate.

Knowing Owen Wilson, I know he would never ever have his famous nose straightened. Broken twice, it is his trade mark. No the picture is not Owen nor Luke Wilson.
