The Rassada Pub in Poonpol Road, Phuket City, where the stabbing occurred

Man Wanted for Stabbing Phuket Resort Owner Surrenders to Police

Wednesday, January 4, 2012
UPDATE: Police to meet media shortly

The man who allegedly stabbed a Phuket resort owner in an altercation at 4am on Wednesday at a Phuket City pub has been named as Suchart Pahala, 26, who gave himself up at a police station. Police said they were withholding the name of the victim and other details at his request, but Vorasit ''Wan'' Issara's name appears today in virtually all media. His family owns and runs the Sri panwa resort. He married in 2011, and his wife is reported to be pregnant.

Original Report

PHUKET: A prominent young Phuket resort owner was stabbed at 4am today in an altercation in a pub in Phuket City, police have confirmed.

It is believed the victim, son of a wealthy Bangkok family, was initially treated at Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket City.

Staff at Bangkok Phuket declined to reveal officially today whether the man had been treated or admitted.

The man is thought to have suffered two knife wounds to the stomach. Reports of the violent altercation first emerged from Bangkok.

The stabbing took place at Rassada Pub in the Poonpol entertainment area of Phuket City. Poonpol is the somewhat seedy district where the staff of nighttime venues in and around Phuket City usually go to unwind after official closing hours.

Police in Phuket City were today interviewing all of the staff at the pub. The stabbed man went to the pub with four friends, police have been told.

Others who know about the early-morning venues also visit Poonpol, which is gradually being gentrified from its seedier era. Poonpol is also home to a notorious red-light street.

The resort owner, aged 30, is well-known as a fun-loving host who throws spectacular parties and has guided the development of the southern Phuket resort as a popular haunt for hi-so local and international guests, as well as visitors from Bangkok.

He recently posted a message on Phuketwan's Facebook page saying: ''You really are a real bunch of boring + negative people!!! There r so many positive thing to write about the island. So sad the u are not able the see the good side of life!!! U should go there living some where eles''

The man completed his education in the US and is also a well-regarded chef and cooking teacher.

According to the Thai press, Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner was among the people in the victim's group. From "Mission Impossible: 4" to Phuket nightlife!

"Poonpol is the somewhat seedy district..."

You certainly have a way with words.

Judging by the quality of his english, I'm surprised he was able to complete his education in the US.

Christian, have you never heard George W Bush speak?

So can PhuketWan confirm if Hollywood actor was involved or not?

Editor Comment:

We're more concerned about the victim's speedy recovery and catching the perpetrator. Celebrity is fleeting.

Hope he gets well soon. But why wrong part of town? Sounds like the right part of town to get stabbed early in the morning.

Only someone who doesn't value their own personal safety would go out in Phuket at all after 10pm. By that time, I'm already home and tucked up in bed with a good book. And I'm not some old codger, I'm 38 years old. This is how scary dangerous Phuket is these days.

I hope the victim gets well soon, but I find the contrast of - we are holding his name as opposed to, name, birth, race, where they are from etc quite strange.

What was that sound? Did I hear money talking? ;)

Tbs, in Britain, the courts on occasions withhold names just because people happen to be famous footballers. How unfair is that?

Phuket, so dangerous?
If you are a normal guy or Tourist and behave, normally there's no problem.
I come to Patong since 1990 and lived for years there.
Only too many people, cars etc there now these days!
