GM Jerry John at the Angsana, site of a huge beachfront party

Phuket Resort to Host 'Beach Party' for 3000 from China

Thursday, April 18, 2013
UPDATE

ORGANISERS of the event told Phuketwan on Friday that it will be contained within the resort, not extend onto the public beach. Phuket authorities said no application had been made to hold an event on Bang Tao beach.

Original Report

PHUKET: Nu Skin has chosen Phuket as the destination for its 3000-pax incentive, which will take place from April 20-25, barely a year after the Thai island played host to more than 15,000 top achievers from Amway China.

''A private beach party will be organised for the Nu Skin group at Angsana Laguna Phuket. The entire beachfront of the hotel will be closed off to the public, while a custom stage will be set up in front of the Xana Beach Club and performers flown in from overseas to entertain the group,'' said Thanate Kienpotiramard, managing director of BIC Phuket, which is handling the production and events support for the group.

According to Thanate, the Phuket-based firm has spent the past four to five months preparing for the group's arrival, and has Mandarin speakers in his team to liaise with the China-based events house hired by Nu Skin to ensure that all requirements are met.

In addition to the private beach party, the Nu Skin group will also have a meeting and dinner gathering at Phuket Fantasea.

''The Nu Skin beach party will be the largest outdoor function we have ever handled,'' said Thanate, adding that Phuket's ''unpredictable weather also presents a major challenge, as it is now the rainy season''.

Mobile marquees will be constructed to provide shelter and raincoats will be prepared as part of the event's wet weather contingency.

The beachfront party will also be the biggest-ever event hosted by Angsana Laguna Phuket, with the set-up expected to take four days, according to general manager, Jerry John.

Said John: ''The biggest challenge in hosting large events is to ensure that the service provided is of the highest standard, without affecting the smaller number of other hotel guests who could be inconvenienced by both the large flow of (in-house) guests as well as event attendees.

''This is, however, not an issue with Nu Skin because the group is occupying the entire hotel.

''And given our experience with the large Amway China event last year, we are in a better position to anticipate challenges and prepare for them.''

@ above.."Angsana Laguna Phuket. The entire beachfront of the hotel will be closed off to the public. "

Not legal but no doubt enough influential people involved to make it happen...

It's highly likely that the resort has sought and obtained the appropriate permission, 949. Unless you have some specific knowledge, it's unfair to make such a comment. The issue of Phuket public beaches being used for private commercial gain is, of course, a continuing concern. The boundary between the private resort and the public beach at this spot is a little imprecise. No doubt a lot of money will be spent to restore the beach to its ''pristine'' glory.

(moderated) As i said..it is not legal to use the beach front. You can come out with all the nonsense you like as usual Alan, but facts are facts...

And you seem to have a problem sticking to them, 949. The ''beach front'' is private land. The beach is public.

Hope they have enough ash trays and rubbish bins!

@Ed
"And you seem to have a problem sticking to them, 949. The ''beach front'' is private land. The beach is public."

Maybe the article is not very clear, then?
''A private beach party will be organised for the Nu Skin group at Angsana Laguna Phuket. The entire beachfront of the hotel will be closed off to the public, while a custom stage will be set up in front of the Xana Beach Club and performers flown in from overseas to entertain the group,''

In addition to the private beach party....
''The Nu Skin beach party will be the largest outdoor function we have ever handled,''

PW will clear this facts and update their report, right? Looks a bit like the private new years party on a public beach has opened the party use but closing the beaches for the public audience during the events.

Indeed, we will be looking into the issue. Our philosophy has been made plain many times. As a beach holiday destination, Phuket cannot ignore the appeal that the beaches have for sunset dining and for events. That's why Phuket needs a single Phuket Beach Authority to provide a standard approach, to protect the beachfronts and the beaches for future generations, and to put ALL profits made from commercial operations on the sand back into environmental care, not into private pockets.

Red faced again morrisen..why not post my comment...you simply will never ever admit when wrong,... and that is often..more twists and turns from you on any thing you get wrong..man up and admit it when you do so..

Failure to debate any topic without insults and abuse means nothing you say will ever be taken seriously by me or any other reader, 949. You've blown your last chance. Stop wasting our time.

You use the number, 949, and then take it as an ''attack'' when somebody else does. How odd. Goodbye.

Is it my imagination or is Phuket attracting more 949 types than ever before. Too much time on their hands - bet you ride a motorbike because you like it, not because you can't afford a car!

It is my understanding that by Thai law the "Beach" extends 40m inland from the median water line (average between low and high tide).

Any land beyond that can be privately owned and public access denied. However those first 40m of beach must be accessible and for example every hotel must provide a way for non-guests to do so.

In reality this is not happening though but it should and theoretically you could file a complaint against any hotel or private property owner who denies such access to you.

I doubt any police station on Phuket would be the least bit interested in receiving such a complaint, let alone act on it.

Commercial activities are controlled by local councils with different approaches, beach by beach. Each year, more commerce covers the sand. This is why consistency is needed under a single Phuket Beach Authority.

Last year the locals get angry as they expected a lot of business from amway, this one will be the same story, renting a hotel for a few days and suppose they bought the whole beach or island and nothing for local people, will be interesting to see if laguna will clear the mess they made, as in the past years they not take care for the beach in front of there hotels
