Thar she blows: Phuket firemen deal with a wayward Mira in traffic

Phuket Reflects on a Mira Traffic Stopper

Thursday, March 24, 2011
BEING a traffic-stopper is the dream for some on Phuket. Actually doing it can be a little embarrassing, as the woman driver of a Mira found out yesterday.

It happened like this: she noted at home near the Tesco Lotus supermarket that the petrol gauge on the dash was not working properly, so she set out for the garage.

About 2pm on Thepkasattri Road, near Rajabhat University, the Mira decided it had had enough and began belching smoke from under the bonnet.

The Loei-registered vehicle quickly became a truly hot Phuket traffic-stopper as firemen raced to douse the small car. The crowd quickly built up, waiting for traffic to flow again.

With the Mira wet and safe, other travellers were allowed to flow past the scene. The fate of the Mira is unknown.
