PHUKET: Motorcycle mayhem catches tourists off-guard on Phuket - like the Russian woman trapped in her car in the photograph above.
She was motoring along the busy Patong road behind Jungceylon in the early hours of yesterday when an Australian on a motorcycle slammed into her door.
The result: she couldn't get out through the door, and the Australian man was taken to Patong Hospital for treatment.
It was not the only damage done during the night. At Kalim, north of Patong, a tourist who was walking along the roadway became another hospital case when struck by two tourists on a motorcycle.
The nationalities of the struck tourist and the strikees are not known.
The number of fatalities on Phuket's roads is trending down but thousands of residents and tourists are injured or maimed every month because Phuket has no public transport alternative.
