Phuket Rapist Confesses to Bar-Wife Robberies

Friday, June 25, 2010
A PHUKET man who committed a knife-point rape this week later confessed to working with his wife to rob expats who took her home from the Patong bar where she worked as a hostess.

The bar girl would call her husband, pass on the address, make sure the door was unlocked, and then entertain her expat customer while her husband committed a robbery.

Manat Prabpai, 30, also admitted at Kathu Police Station to robbing the home of a British expat in Patong on June 9, stealing a laptop, a telephone, a watch and cash.

His arrest followed a break-in at a house in Patong on Wednesday morning. Khun Manat held one woman at knife-point, and raped her, first telling her two female housemates that he would kill his victim if they made a noise.

At 6am the boyfriend of one of the girls arrived unexpectedly. Khun Manat stabbed the man and then fled. His wife was waiting on a motorcycle and helped him to escape, he later told police.

The stabbed man was not seriously wounded and is now recovering.

After his arrest, Khun Manat admitted to spending time in prison for a murderous assault. He was freed last month, when he and his wife resumed their life of crime.

Patong police are now looking for Khun Manat's wife, Anongnard Teebpan.

In a related incident, Adisak Rakkanam, 27, was arrested after committing three robberies in quick succession last night. Khun Adisak is a companion of Khun Manat and his wife.

Wearing a full-face red and white helmet and pointing a gun at a counter cashier, he scooped 3000 baht in a raid on a Family Mart convenience store soon after 11pm last night.

Minutes later, wearing the helmet, he also robbed a woman in Patong of a telephone, a gold necklace and 700 baht in a raid on her room.

About 2.30am today, the man in the red and white helmet raided a 7-Eleven in Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road, waved the gun and escaped with 3000 baht.

Khun Adisak and Khun Manat were arrested early today. It is believed Khun Manat helped Khunn Adisak escape from the robberies.

Do we have any news of what bar she worked and any photos of her? Most bars will have photos of the woman they are after, even if it was someone's birthday or something like that.
