The new level of incitement came amid signs of growing confrontation with the government, and alarm among onlookers. Troops are turning the screws, and now the red shirts are promising that trouble will spread throughout other parts of Thailand,
ABOUT 500 people from ''the network who love the democracy of Phuket'' paid a visit to the island's governor today.
The moves came before PM Abhisit Vejjajiva made an evening national television appearance, thanking people for their support. He said he understood why people wanted the red protests to end in Bangkok, but he did not want to see anyone hurt.
He said he thought the setting of deadlines would be counterproductive and called for patience.
Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who has the support of the reds, also went on tv to say he thought the PM should resign and call an election. He said he did not support the reds for his own ends - the protesters were fighting for democracy.
Slowly but surely, opposition momentum is building to counter the red rallies in Bangkok. Today's protest was peaceful, as all rallies on Phuket tend to be.
Governor Wichai Praisa-ngob accepted a letter from the group and undertook to pass it on to the Prime Minister.
The letter asks the PM to continue in office and make no concessions to the red shirts, who have been active on Bangkok's streets since march 12,
Governor Wichai said he was pleased the demonstrators had chosen to come to Phuket's Provincial Hall and asked any others who may feel inclined to take to the streets to also visit him.
''Please let me know what you are doing,'' he said. ''Phuket is a tourist destination, so we don't want to cause unnecessary alarm.''
Phuket has also long been a stronghold for the Democrat Party and the yellow shirt People's Alliance for Democracy.

I scratch my head to find the colors I should avoid to wear for the coming weeks!!! Red, Yellow, Pink, Blue..not so much colors left in fact...perhaps the Black color should be appropriate if fighting erupt in the streets of Bangkok and provincial cities...
"God Save The King" should be the anthem....
