PHUKET: The Phuket Pride 2012 festivities celebrating Phuket's diversity are to be appropriately spread across all of Phuket this year from April 23-April 28.
Expats are being invited to join, say the organisers in the first announcement of the schedule.
Details of the broader approach to the festival this year have been released as gay travel becomes an essential element in Phuket's tourism scene.
Coincidentally, Marriott International has just announced the relaunch of marriott.com/gaytravel, the first hospitality portal tailored for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) customers worldwide in English and four other languages: French, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
Such is Phuket's growing reputation as a diversity destination that the JW Marriott Phuket is pictured with the announcement of the fay travel site's relaunch at 4hoteliers.com
Over the years, the Phuket Pride festival has gone from growing acceptance to glowing reviews, and the 2012 version is expected to continue that tradition.
''The goal for this year's pride celebration is to create a stronger sense of community within the Thai and Farang communities in Phuket which is why this year's theme, chosen by the Phuket Pride committee, is 'Join our Family,''' says the introduction at phuket-pride.org
Marriot also makes the same attitude plain. Randy Griffin, Vice President, Global Sales, Marriott International, Inc. says: ''In 2012, our aspiration will be to ensure marriott.com/gaytravel is the trusted and welcoming source for leisure, business and group travel for the LGBT community as we do for all our customers.''
The executive committee at the Phuket Loves You Club includes Chair, Ken Miller, general manager of CC Bloom's Hotel, a gay friendly hotel, with former executive director of the Honolulu Gay Community Center and Pride organiser, Reiner Buechel as Co-Chair, architecture consultant and co-founder of the Cologne Gay Pride, John Bowell as treasurer, co-owner of the Sundowners Group who has an extensive background in accounting systems, and Sompol 'Vickky' Sitthyiwetoh as secretary. Khun Vicky was producer of Phuket Pride2010 and 2011.
