PHUKET: A local politician has told the Phuket and national media that he was set up in a raid aimed at finding someone on Phuket who was allegedly buying votes.
About 20 officials were involved in the raid, surrounding the home of Pasong Trirat, 40, in Phuket's Thepkasattri district, around the Phuket Heroine's Monument, where he had once been tessaban council mayor.
Officers found 542,000 baht in cash in the house but no list of bought voters, something they even went into the cieling to look for.
''I have the paperwork to show that all the money is for my businesses,'' Khun Pasong told reporters. ''Somebody was trying to set me up.''
The raid was carried out on the authority of Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha, who heads the national July 3 election committee for Phuket and whose role includes overseeing illegalities.
A search warrant for Khun Prasong's house was issued by the Phuket Provincial Court. Officers found leaflets for two parties in the house, the Democrat Party and Bhumjaithai Party, but no list of bought voters.
Officers also found chanote papers, loan documents, gold, diamonds and jewellery, but Khun Prasong's normal business involves giving loans to customers.

A democratic way to eliminate a disliked person ( until one has proof to the contrary )!
