THE classy blue BMW impounded at Phuket City Police Station today hinted at the scale of the confessed drug gang of five. And the guns, the expensive motorcycles and the money told the rest of the tale.
Alert patrol police stopped Jakkaphan Boonead, 36, for questioning in the Kor Kaew area of Phuket City, near Supercheap, yesterday about 5pm. Heroin was found in his pocket.
Within the hour, police had also pounced on Sommid Nonsee, 36, and his wife, Ampha Kombaam, 31, at a house nearby, finding 30 ya bah pills, seven grams of ya ice, 25 grams of heroin, a needle and drug paraphernalia.
Police impounded a shotgun, a pistol, a large screen television set, gold jewellery, 11,900 baht in cash and three motorcycles and a Honda Accord - as well as the BMW with its custom-built sound system. The couple were unemployed.
Two more arrests followed with Somkid Kedud, 30, and Chairat Pongsai, 32, joining the media presentation at Phuket City Police Station today.
Some of the gang were said to be heroin addicts. Their target for drug sales was ''young people in Phuket City,'' police said.
A bank book belonging to Khun Ampha contained the record of plenty of substantial deposits and withdrawals.
Out the front of the police station, a police prison van had pulled up, not far from the classy blue BMW. Its rear door was open and waiting.
