Sathian Rungjinda, who allegedly attacked 11 women

Phuket Police Nab Sex Attacker of 11 Women

Friday, April 16, 2010
A MAN who allegedly attempted to rape 11 women on Phuket during robberies was arrested when police raided his house in Phuket City yesterday.

Sathian Rungjinda, 36, succeeded in just one of his attempts at rape, police said. He became the focus of the police investigation because he had recently been released from Phuket Jail after serving two years for similar crimes.

His method of attack was harrowing for the women involved, police said. He often used one side of a pair of scissors to stick against the throats of the women when he demanded first money then sex, police said in presenting the accused at Phuket City police station today.

Ten of the 11 attacks took place in Phuket City and another in Chalong. The first was recorded on December 14 and the last, involving two separate alleged assaults, early on the day he was arrested.

He always chose attractive women, police said.

Ten women have identified Khun Sathian so far and others may come forward, said the chief of Phuket Police, Major General Pekad Tantipong.

His method was to observe the women, wait until they were vulnerable early in the morning, then attack using the scissors, the major general said.

Police recorded attacks as follows: two alleged assaults after 1am on December 14 near Seng Ho bookstore in Phuket City; March 25 at 12.50am near Tammachart restaurant; March 29 at Soi Patipat in Phuket City; March 31 at 7am at Soi Nimid in Phuket City; About 12.10am on April 8 at Maeluan Road in Phuket City and again at 5am at Soi Paneng; April 9 at 6am at Maeluan Road; April 13 about 6am at Soi Lolong in Phuket City, and 7am the same day at the Yeetang junction in Phuket City; April 15 at 1am at Soi 4 Lungpor Road in Phuket City. The Chalong attack is alleged to have taken place at the Say Yes Pub on April 13.

In one of three attacks on April 13, Khun Sathian allegedly kidnapped a woman as she and a friend returned from celebrating Songkran in Patong. Khun Sathian pointed the scissors at her throat as she dismounted the motorcycle and opened the gate at her home. Her friend fled inside and locked herself in the toilet.

Khun Sathian then stole cash and goods from the house, and kidnapped the 25-year-old woman, forcing her to sit in front as he rode the motorcycle to the Chinese cemetery at Rang Hill.

He told the woman to take off her pants and pushed her into jungle, police said. Fortunately the owner of a nearby restaurant heard the commotion and yelled: ''What are you doing?''

With that, Khun Sathian rode off, police said. Another attack took place that morning at Yeetang junction, police said.

The major general said police had not been aware that the man had been freed from jail until recently, in a check with the jail.

Khun Sathian is likely to face multiple charges that will put him away for a lot longer than two years, Major General Pekad said.

I wonder if this is the guy that was involved in the three expat women rapes/attempted rapes in Rawaii.
