Police Chief Promises to Protect Tourists

Police Chief Promises to Protect Tourists

Tuesday, October 22, 2013
PHUKET: Thousands of copies of a brochure headlined PHUKET POLICE TOURIST CARE are now being printed for distribution to tourists on Phuket.

''If you have suffered from illegal cab or any other influence, police commander Ong-arj is willing to help you'' is the message in six languages.

The idea, conceived by Phuket Police commander Major General Ong-Art Phiwruangnont, provides the message in English, Thai, Chinese, Russian, Japanese and Korean.

Mobile telephone numbers are provided for three Phuket police officers, together with 191 and other general numbers.

The commander is expected to launch the distribution of the brochures shortly, probably with an announcement at Phuket International Airport, Patong, or some other tourist landmark.

Recently, the commander also told Phuketwan that sex shows would not be allowed to operate on Phuket.

Commander Ong-Art is Phuket's sixth police commander in the past six years. There will be a seventh within seven years as he has just a year before retirement.

Phuket's police numbers are being boosted by several hundred in the next year or so after senior officers in Bangkok recognised that the island did not have enough police to properly protect tourists.

"sex shows would not be allowed to operate" said the new commander.
Without offence to the new commander, but if he reads this, could he clarify if other illegal activities such as jet-ski, illegal tuk-tuks and taxi's, etc. etc. are allowed to operate as usual?
I don't mean to be sarcastic, but really would like to know the point of view from a new Police Commander!

Something tells me they'll need more than 3 or 4 police to deal with this offer to actually enforce the law.
