Regional Marketing Director Bhuritt Maswongssa said more hotels, restaurants and other businesses reliant on tourism were expected to join the Phuket protest once words spreads about the gathering, which comes as a response to the damage being done to tourism in Thailand by the red rallies in Bangkok.
Similar gatherings are expected on Friday in the capital and at other tourism destinations around Thailand.
''We will be delivering a letter to the governor, asking the prime minister to find a way to settle the protest so tourism can get back to normal,'' Khun Bhuritt said.
Statistics suggest that Bangkok and other destinations have lost as much as 30 percent of their expected guests because of the red rally, which is now in its third week.
Red leaders have promised another big march through the city on Saturday, but onlookers predict that numbers will be down on previous marches.
Bangkok bystanders fear that the longer the rally goes on, the more likelihood there will be of violence. Some small blasts, mostly outside government facilities, have caused injuries.
Protests using the red shirts' own blood and lengthy debates between red leaders and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and government representatives have failed to achieve the red shirts' aim of a quick national election.
