Phuket police are currently investigating two prominent assassinations and have been asked to increase security in the wake of a Bangkok terrorist alert that has Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha keen to ensure the popular tourist destination is safe.
Local residents passing the spot in southern Phuket noticed a strange smell and called police to Cape Promthep, Phuket's southernmost point and famous for its sunset views, about 8am today.
In jungle near a temple close to the Cape, police found the body of a man. Paramedics reckoned he had been shot in the chest and that a bullet - or perhaps a sword wound - exited from his back.
There was no identification on the body, which was dressed in blue jeans, a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and grey desert boots. He was about 165 centimetres tall, and had a prominent tattoo on his back.
Paramedics at the scene reckoned the man had been dead for about a week. His body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.
Wow, I was down there on Friday and smelled the dead smell as I walked past the back entrance road to the lookout. I just wrote it off as a dead animal or some disregarded rubbish from the restaurants.
One thing that sticks in my mind also was that a few local young guys were hanging out near there smoking some weed by the gate and asking me where I was from. How could they have not smelt it?
