PHUKET: Visakha Bucha on Monday is likely to see thousands gather at Phuket's Big Buddha to mark one of the most important days in the Buddhist calendar.
Temples around Phuket are also likely to be busy places, where tourists remain welcome - provided they dress appropriately.
The Big Buddha is still attracting 1000 people a day as visitors in Phuket's low season, down from 2000 in the November-February period.
Monday will see at least 10,000 or more make the trek up Nakkerd Hill to the 45-metre icon.
A candle-lit ceremony will follow at the top of the 380-metre hill at 7pm, weather permitting.

This may seem silly but Big Buddha is one of my favourite places on Phuket. Not because of the wonderful statue and surrounds but for the feeling of peace and serenity I get from just being there and gazing out over the island.
