A BID to bring Thailand's International Dance Festival 2010 to Phuket this month has been metaphorically wrong-footed and tumbled into the orchestra pit.
Confusion was compounded this afternoon with the issuing of an online press release saying that the festival, a regular event in Bangkok, would also be happening on Phuket.
Not so, said festival public relations contact Sataka Klongcherngsorn, who told Phuketwan that the cancellation of the Phuket ''leg'' of the dance extravaganza had failed to find a sponsor.
She said all the action would continue as planned in Bangkok, and invited Phuket dance fans to make the journey to the capital.
The festival runs from March 5 to March 14 at Benjasiri Park, Thailand Cultural Center, and SF World Cinema
Earlier today, the press release on prurgent.com announced: ''The International Dance Festival 2010, is being held in Phuket and Bangkok from March 5 to March 14. It will boast more than 400 artists from 15 countries who will perform in a range of dance styles from classic ballet to jazz contemporary and hip-hop.
An expected audience of 100,000 is expected in Bangkok alone but by hosting events in Phuket, the organisers hope that more people than ever will be able enjoy this year's event. ''
The Bangkok-only event has attracted some international talent, including Filippa Giordani, The Korean B-Boyz City, the unique Blacklight Theatre troupe from Czech Republic and Mummenschanz from Switzerland.
There will also be various master classes, workshops and a '''Young Talent Showcase'' which will allow performers and chorographers to entertain the crowds and perform in front of an audience.
What did Phuket miss out on? The plan was for a series of events on March 2 as follows:
4pm-6pm Young talent showcase and local choreographers performance at Jungceylon department store
6pm-6.30pm Tesco Lotus 3G Campaign by international artists
6.30pm-7pm Opening ceremony
7pm-10pm Free public peformance; Parts of Korean B-Boy (Korea), Oplas theatre (Italy), Black light theatre (Czech), American Hip Hop (USA), Contemporary Dance (Israel) and Thai percussion (Thailand)
4pm-10pm Art market and gallery venue
Tickets for performances in Bangkok are available from Thaiticketmajor.com or by calling 02 268-8888
Phuket's young dancers and dance fans may finally get their chance in 2011.
