A Phuket landslip hits a warehouse wall and shakes the goods inside

Lucky Phuket Escape as Landslide Envelops 'Safe' Warehouse

Friday, October 14, 2011
PHUKET: A third large landslide in Phuket's Bypass Road danger zone has damaged a warehouse where goods were transferred yesterday - for safe-keeping.

Workers at Adisak Trading Co moved goods from one warehouse after a small slip threatened that building, indicating a larger fall might come.

Overnight, a much larger landslide did come. But it struck the second ''safe'' warehouse.

Fortunately, the large landslip did not occur in daylight, while the goods were being transferred.

The scene inside the warehouse today was chaotic with scores of cans of paint shaken, not stirred.

It's unclear whether the workers sought permission from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation or Rassada Municipality to return to work in the danger zone, declared after a pair of earlier destructive landslips.

The first landslip on October 5 damaged a block of apartments where Adisak workers live, but it was daylight and no people were in the building.

Several sites around Phuket on and below steep slopes continue to cause concern, although the weather outlook for Phuket for the next few days is storm-free.

One would think that after the previous slides and the severe warnings, business owners would move away from the area for now. No this owner has the foresight to place all his goods in one basket. There are no brakes on that sodden land yet?
