Phuket Police Chief Major General Pekad with drug-taking paraphernalia

Phuket Cutter Man 'Held Up Six Stores'

Monday, March 29, 2010
A MAN who held up 7-Eleven and Family Mart stores on Phuket six times armed with a cutter was arrested on Thursday, police said today.

Police managed to track him down to the PS Inn in Phuket City after a security camera captured his features on his final raid.

Another robber paraded at Phuket City police station today, accused of stealing electric wiring at the Khao Khad viewpoint in Vichit, was told by Phuket Police Chief Major General Pekad Tantipong: ''You have everything you need, except a brain.

''You steal the wiring and sell it for 200 baht, but this means loss of electricity for scores of families.''

The accused, Sunthorn Banthergkul, 49, had stolen 12 metres of electric cable.

To the accused convenience store robber, Chanikorn Hongbin, 23, Major General Pekad said: ''One case will earn you a jail term but six cases will earn you many years.'' Khun Chanikorn even stole the cutter he used to threaten cashiers at convenience stores, police said.

Khun Chanikorn allegedly robbed a Family Mart in Chao Fa Road West near Chalong Circle twice, a 7-Eleven at Virat Hongyok Road, a Family Mart at Sam Kong, a 7-Eleven at Ranong Road, and a Family Mart at Patong.

Three other men were paraded today over alleged yah ba sales and possession of 710 tablets of the methamphetamine. One man was also charged over possession of heroin and yah ice.

The accused are Anuwat Tongtan, 25, (600 yah ba) Sujin Boontang, 39, (heroin, yah ice and 2 yah ba) and Yatapacha Lawankul, 30 (eight yah ba).

Drug arrests were becoming a regular daily event on Phuket, Major General Pekad said. ''People who use drugs become involved in crimes of violence,'' he said, ''so police need to be alert.''

The man accused of the six convenience store robberies was a regular user of yah ba, he said.

We often read of these arrests - but very rarely ever hear of the outcomes, fines or prison sentences.
Is this information not made available to media? From ya-ba to murder and more, what do people get sentenced to?

That is why they say the most dangerous job in America is a 7-Eleven clerk.

Yes I agree with CG, is it possible to get updates? Still curious about the tuk tuk driver who assaulted a family and the Kata Kidnapper.

I bet they are both out on bail making Phuket the better place. Scary.
