Yana Strizheus after she was found at a Phuket hotel today

Phuket Kidnap Claim Woman Found at Hotel, Being Treated in Hospital

Sunday, March 16, 2014
PHUKET: Phuket police say they have found a Russian woman at the centre of a kidnap claim and are conducting further investigations.

Yana Strizheus was being treated at Bangkok Hospital Phuket this evening for wounds to a wrist and cuts to her neck after she was found in a room at the Blue Garden Hotel in Cherng Talay.

There was no sign of her boyfriend, Alexei Slabinskiy, 39.

Empty whisky and beer bottles and some damaged 100 baht Thai notes were found in the room.

Friends told police on Phuket that the pair, who rented a house in Kamala from April last year, were last seen on March 7.

According to police, Ms Strizheus called a relative in Russian on March 13 and said she had been kidnapped.

Earlier, the couple had said they urgently needed the equivalent of $100,000 to solve some financial problems.

Police raided the couple's home today and found no sign of the pair but Ms Strizheus was found about 6.30pm at the Blue Garden Hotel.

There was some blood in the room and Ms Strizheus had a wrist wound, police said.

Ms Strizheus had yet to give an account of her movements in recent days to officers, a police spokesman said.

Staff at the resort say Ms Strizheus had been at the hotel since Friday. Police were alerted to her presence today.

Officers are hoping to be able to interview Ms Strizheus on Monday. Relatives had flown from Russia to try to help locate the couple.
