PHUKET: The assassin who gunned down a journalist in Phuket's main street a year ago has confessed to the slaying and will be brought back to Phuket soon.
Tossapon ''Sanya'' Keawket, 36, reportedly told police in Cha-Am that he was paid 13,000 baht to kill Wisut ''Ae'' Tangwittayaporn, 44.
The identity of the person who paid for the killing is expected to be revealed when Khun Sanya is brought back to Phuket after police in Cha-Am, near Hua Hin on the Gulf of Thailand, have concluded an earlier murder case.
Phuket journalist Khun Ae died after being gunned down in his black Honda jazz in Thepkasattri Road soon after leaving home on January 12 last year. His wife Jiraporn ''Ji'' Hosakul was in the passenger's seat.
Colleagues and friends in the Phuket media corps were among the first on the scene of the shooting.
Khun Tossapon allegedly confessed to Khun Ae's murder when Cha-Am police questioned him about the killing of one of his friends, in a 2004 dispute in Cha-Am.
Noppadol Plaisri, 41, also from Cha-Am, was arrested days after the Phuket killing and confessed to being the rider of the motorcycle. He told police he had been paid 50,000 baht.
Cable television station owner Ausadakorn ''Pord'' Sidorkbaow, 48, gave himself up to police when he realised he was wanted for questioning about the killing but has denied any involvement.
