An officer quizzes Russian Natalie Nikitolova, 30, in the Phuket shop

Phuket Immigration Officers Arrest Russian Tour Saleswoman

Thursday, April 4, 2013
PHUKET: Immigration Police arrested a Russian woman yesterday as she sold tour packages from an outlet in the Karon district of Phuket.

The woman, named as Natalie Nikitolova, 30, did not have a work permit and was not able to produce evidence that she had a valid visa for Thailand.

She was working from a shopfront in Kata Road, Karon, on behalf of Rusinfo.

Immigration officers escorted her about 6.30pm to Karon Police Station for further questioning.

What will happen to the tour counter which was employing an illegal foreign worker?

I was thinking about learning Thai but now think Russian will be more relevant as in the future in Phuket as more people with money will speak it, therefore control Phuket.

"What will happen to the tour counter which was employing an illegal foreign worker?"
She was working for a tourcompany, not 1 tour counter. When a Russian customer came she would go to the specific tourcounter and sell them the tours provided by her company. She has been driving around Kata on her motorbike for a few years now.

Not to be outdone here, but everybody is going waa waa waa over the employment or lack of work permit. What about the lack of a valid visa to be in Thailand? Anybody care to answer that one?

All the touts that give you scratch cards also, don't have real work permits. They also have to pay the Police every month, but these people are let off because they are not Russian?

Most of the Tailor touts are Nepalese and years ago I got to know a few of them a bit better.

None of them had work permits and told me they all pay the police Bt 2000 per month. Twice that what the Burmese pay.

I wonder how the authorities might have missed this very visible and In-Your-Face (literally) group.

Law enforcement is most welcome but a selective and biased one, be it based on personal benefits or nationality, makes a mockery of the whole police force on Phuket.

The best advice I can give is to always play by the rules. Remember that if you pay someone to do you a favor, one day that person can simply undo that favor and they have you.

@Phuket IOC, no problem for me old bean, just asked what is the penalty for no valid visa for entering Thailand? Do you get deported or what? Maybe the resident whistle blower can answer, oops I see he has questions of his own?

@Robin
The Thai law is clear that in case of entry without visa or working without proper documents, the police must arrest the foreigners; then file up the case before sending it to court which will fine and deport the foreigners.
But most of the time in Phuket, with money, you can stop the case either at the Police Station or Immigration Office and and get off the hook as it is the case in most criminal cases such as Encroachments, fights in bar, driving accidents, etc.....
Professional Corruption in Phuket by civil servants is at full speed at the moment where tea-money is more important that performing official duties.
