The ferry washed into the wall at Cape Panwa by vicious storms

Phuket on 24-Hour Storm, Slips Emergency Alert

Monday, March 28, 2011
A TOURIST ferry washed into a sea wall at Cape Panwa is one of several vessels that suffered as wild weather lashed Phuket over the weekend and today.

The yacht Isle of Skye became beached at Nai Harn early on Sunday morning and more boats were washed ashore at Ao Yon, near Cape Panwa, this morning.

Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha today warned that landslips were a serious concern. Emergency services were on standby.

Special 24-hour centres have been set up in 14 areas on Phuket: Tambon Karon, Baan Kata, Baan Bangla, Baan Watmai, Baan Laem Promthep, Baan Chitcheaw, Baan Kown, Baan Pakchert, Baan Lipon, Baan Kok, Baan Tareua, Baan Maired and Baan Kalim.

Governor Tri said Phuket has a budget of 50 million baht to deal with emergencies by providing essentials to residents if necessary.

Conditions are also serious in Phang Nga and Krabi and north and south along the Andaman coast.

Editor Comment:

No reason why you shouldn't have a great Phuket holiday, cindy, now that the rain has ceased to pour.
