Phuket to Host Top Tennis Tournament in October

Thursday, September 22, 2011
PHUKET: Tennis lovers can head to Phuket next month to see the action at the Chang ITF Thailand Pro Circuit 2011.

For the first time, Phuket is to play host to a round of the prestigious International Tennis Federation event, which will see leading professional players from around the world competing for a $10,000 prize.

The tournament will run from October 29 through to November 12 and is to take place at Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club, which recently opened state-of-the-art Plexicushion tennis courts designed for all-weather play.

It will be preceded by the Thanyapura Tennis Challenge 2011, which runs from October 14 to October 16 and will see the winner receiving a wildcard entry into the ITF competition.

Admission fees will start at 50 baht, with the venue's grandstands offering enough room to seat around 600 spectators.

TSLC vice president David Roberts said in a statement: ''It is an honor to host Phuket's first ITF event and it is a great indication for the future of the sport at the Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club.''

Tennis fans can find a generous selection of Phuket hotels at AsiaRooms.com, including the Patong Merlin Hotel.

More information about the tournament series can be found at http://www.itftennis.com/.

Yes Mike 10,000 dollars is correct; ITF tour events form a sort of kindergarten for young professionals to help them progress onwards to the ATP Challenge Tour and then, for the best of them, to the ATP World Tour. Top Tennis it is not. At this event in Phuket you most certainly will not see any leading professional players from around the world.

"Leading professional players from around the world" competing for $10,000?

is this a typo?

No, it's a Media Release. Not much point in doing a once-over lightly edit then pretending it's journalism. Others do. Some people will enjoy the chance to see high-standard tennis on Phuket, though. ''The best Phuket will see this year,'' perhaps. And one day, who knows?

Hi! David.
just checked out the website as some of our players might be interested in competing. To be honest The site is a little vague about what is going on. A phone call to the number in Bangkok which I eventually found, raised someone whose English was not understood.

Would it be possible to publish something on this website that may be of benefit to anyone interested in competing.
We all know where to stay and don't need your lead on that, just a bit more information about the tournament itself and what is entailed that might help our members would be nice.

Thanks in anticipation
G.H. Coach.
