The man who was driving the four-door pickup that collided with the motorcycle on the Cherng Talay road and four passengers survived unhurt when the vehicle flipped on its side.
The rider of the motorcycle, Supat Panyatea, 31, was killed at the scene along with his eight-year-old son, Wiroj. Jidta Panyatea, 27, five months pregnant, died later in Thalang Hospital, not far from the crash.
No helmets were found at the scene, in Srisoonthorn Road.
The wipeout of the three family members comes at the conclusion of a shocking month for deaths on the roads in the Greater Phuket region.
Five people - including four young Swedish tourists - were killed on February 1 by a fish truck a short distance north of Phuket and another five deaths occurred in a local bus crash just off Phuket on February 18.
Last night's collision came about 9pm as the motorcycle swung right towards the Heroines Monument. The pickup, heading towards Surin beach on Phuket's west coast, was overtaking another vehicle in rain on the treacherous bend.
The bodies of the family are in Thalang Hospital.
Totally awful, as for helmets vs an oncoming pickup truck - the chances of them helping in such a horrendous accident is next to nothing.
When will the Police do something and arrest people for crazy driving, and prevent these accidents happening, rather than prosecuting after the tragedy which normally involves just a fine.

Perhaps when Phuket has enough police, tbs.
