Aimee Malonzo with parents Cheryl and Allan Dykstra on Phuket today

Phuket Honeymoon Crash Victim Aims for Home

Sunday, January 17, 2010
AIMEE Malonzo was flexing her legs today in a special hospital bed on Phuket and looking forward to heading back to Australia.

The dance teacher from Sydney broke her pelvis in the crash of a tour jeep on Big Buddha hill that killed her husband on Friday.

The couple were on their honeymoon. Now the hope is that they can be on the same flight home, back to Sydney, in about five days or so.

With her mother and father are husband Michael's father and sister on Phuket to cheer her today, Aimee was facing the future just the way her husband would have wanted.

On her Facebook page she wrote this morning: ''Michael, the love of my life.My Husband, My best friend, my soul mate, my inspiration, my hero. I love you more than you could imagine . . .

''My heart is bleeding, and my heartache is unbearable. I will remember you forever, with all of the wonderful memories we shared. I will be strong, cos thats what you would have wanted . . .

''Please look after me and watch over me in the difficult times . . . LOVE YOU MY DEAREST HUSBAND x x x''

Her parents Allan and Cheryl flew in on Saturday evening with Michael's father Isaac and his sister, Katrina.

Aimee was one of eight Australians injured in the crash and one of two still being treated in Bangkok Hospital Phuket.

The tour jeep driver told police the brakes had failed but a police check of the vehicle found the brakes intact. However, the vehicle's four-wheel-drive gears had not been engaged.

The steep descent from Big Buddha hill has become more perilous because businesses have sprung up rapidly along the route, but the road has not improved.

Representatives of the tour company, Siam Safari, were planning to meet with Phuket Governor Wicha Praisa-ngob on Tuesday to discuss ways of making the road safer.

Phuketwan has been told of a collision involving a tour vehicle and a pickup on the same road the day before the fatal crash.

Her husband just died on their honeymoon and she's smiling on the photo?

Editor Comment:

In Thailand especially, people smile for all kinds of reasons that have nothing to do with happiness. People everywhere react to trauma in different ways, Atchariya. And your coarse expression has been removed.
