Attracting tourists to a better Phuket is the joint event's aim

Groups Unite to Shed Light on Tourism

Saturday, September 17, 2011
PHUKET: Two of Phuket and Thailand's premium tourism and travel outfits are teaming up for a one-of-a-kind dinner and seminar.

Good ideas are anticipated when PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) meets SKAL, an international association of travel and tourism professionals, on Phuket later this month.

The collaboration by PATA and SKAL aims to grow into a positive influence on Phuket's hospitality industry.

Representatives from a wide range of Phuket tourist, business, travel agent, spa, diving, airline, golf, guides, boating and commerce organisations are expected to attend on Saturday, September 24, with Governor Tri Augkaradacha likely to do the honors at the opening.

The seminar at Movenpick Resort and Spa in Karon is likely to add new voices to the continuing dialogue about what needs to happen to maintain Phuket as a first-rate tourism destination in a world where competition grows more intense every day.

Among the keynote speakers and attendees are Luzi Matzig, CEO Asian Trails and PATA global board member, a pioneer in Thailand tourism and owner of one of Asia's largest travel companies; Bert van Walbeek, MD of The Winning Edge, PATA Thailand chapter chairman and master of global crisis management and motivational speaker; Blair Speers, founder and CEO of HotelTravel.com and PATA Thailand chapter IT chairman; Ms Ben Montgomery, PATA director of chapter development, representing PATA Bangkok headquarters driving the association's growth in the region; and Ms Blandine Cressard, GM of Novotel Phuket Panwa Resort, president of SKAL Phuket.

The event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Hosted guests will feature key government officials, including Tourism and Sport's Phuket director, Baoyun Suwanmanee, along with leaders from the Thai Hotels Association, the Phuket Tourist Association, Honorary Consuls and Phuket-based media.

This introductory session from 5.30pm-11pm is jointly sponsored by Movenpick Resort and Spa Karon Beach and HotelTravel.com.

Dinner and cocktails for both SKAL and PATA members will be 900 baht, and 1500 baht for invited guests attending with members of either association.

Reservations should be made via the SKAL International Phuket and South Thailand website event section at http://www.skalphuket.org/

Large meeting with hundreds of participants from private sectors and government offices may be good for a nice dinner and a "BlingBling Show" but all speakers and attendants will give general information with rose water to please all parties.
It is not in a meeting like that one that decisions will be taken.
Anyway, the food should be great and some contacts may be fruitful at the end.
