Phuket Governor to Fly from India for Hon Con's Meeting

Friday, February 11, 2011
PHUKET Governor Tri Augkaradacha is on a Buddhist religious pilgrimage to India, visiting key shrines connected with the life and teachings of Buddha.

The governor headed off with about 120 other pilgrims on February 9 and will return to Phuket on February 18, Magha Puja Day. Magha Puja Day is perhaps the most important day in the Thai calendar for making merit.

While on the trip to India, Governor Tri will visit Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganges, and Kusinara, where the Buddha realised his time was drawing to a close.

His final words: ''Listen, Bhikkhus, I say this: all conditioned things are subject to decay, strive with diligence for your liberation.''

After the long holiday weekend, Governor Tri will return to Provincial Hall on February 21 for the latest in the series of quarterly meetings with Phuket's honorary consuls.

On the list of the gathering's agenda will be public transport, tuk-tuks, taxis, conditions at Phuket International Airport, jet-ski scams and the latest crime statistics.
