A THAI consultant for a large Chinese company visited Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha yesterday to discuss the prospects of a light rail service for Phuket.
Governor Tri told Phuketwan in an exclusive interview earlier in the week, when asked what he wished to achieve, that solving Phuket's transport infrasctucture was high on his priority list before he retires.
He said he supported the aim pf his predecessor as Governor, Wichai Praisa-ngob, to build a second highway between Phuket International Airport and Phuket City.
''I really wish light rail will happen too because Phuket will need to develop further,'' he said.
''Safe and speedy transport is essential to tourism, particularly as more people travel between Phuket and Phang Nga and Krabi.''
Yesterday Bangkok-based Dr Soontorn Piromsartkoon and several Chinese representatives of SPS Global Corporation visited Governor Tri at his home near Provincial Hall after a meeting on Friday had to be postponed.
The delegation was seeking information about Phuket and the light rail project from the Governor.
He told them that in March, another Chinese firm with an interest in the project will return to say whether they remain interested in perhaps tendering for the project.
SPS Global had good knowledge of Chinese and German technology and was experienced with light rail, the governor was told.
