The tale of the tape proves Phuket's Governor Tri is fighting fit

Phuket Governor Converts Island to a Waistland

Wednesday, May 2, 2012
PHUKET: Governor Tri Augkaradacha gave his body over to a new project today aimed at encouraging Phuket people to shed a little waist.

The project, with the support of Phuket's public hospitals and some Phuket municipal councils, aims to encourage Phuket residents to engage in exercise and healthy eating.

Phuket's Tourism and Sport Department staff already actively support exercise programs among the middle-aged to stave off debilitating diseases and keep people out of hospitals.

Governor Tri set a pretty good standard when he took the tape test at Provincial Hall in Phuket City today, watched by an ever-sceptical media.

Those who pass the Phuket tape test should come in under 80 centimetres for women and under 90 centimetres for men.

Phuketwan has so far been unable to confirm reports that when tourists are asked at Phuket International Airport: ''Do You Have Anything to Declare?'' those who fail a tape test will be made to run to their resorts carrying their luggage.

Six organisations - including the Phuket tax office, two public hospitals and Chalong municipal council - have already signed up to run the tape over staff every six months.

A large majority of tourists arriving here are obese, so I guess there'd be a lot jogging down Thepkasattri road with their luggage:-)

Shame Phuketwan, most media campaign strongly against CENSORSHIP, you however, actively enforce it...shame shame shame.

No Laurie, we just want intelligent comments that add something, not the usual mindless top-of-the-head stuff that only makes Phuketwan look pathetic. The shame, shame, shame is that it's hard to be original and constructive. Isn't it?

ED, I defy you to show that any of MY comments are NOT constructive or intelligent, as in the past I have been proven correct, even though at the time you chose to attempt to demean them, and you are right, in shame shame shame, you have very little original and constructive ideas, perhaps you need another job, your home page says Phuketwan welcomes comments, well it might, but you seem not to, you take every opertunity to redicule, that is not healthy debate and that is what you SHOULD be encouraging. NOW, post it...

We welcome ''comments,'' Laurie, not gratuitous insults or top-of-the-head put-downs. If you have something to say to the Governor about his behavior, go visit the Governor and tell him. But if you're not prepared to tell him to his face, why imagine we'll let you do it here? Your opinion isn't debate, Laurie, and it adds nothing of value. Only you think it's priceless.
