The project, with the support of Phuket's public hospitals and some Phuket municipal councils, aims to encourage Phuket residents to engage in exercise and healthy eating.
Phuket's Tourism and Sport Department staff already actively support exercise programs among the middle-aged to stave off debilitating diseases and keep people out of hospitals.
Governor Tri set a pretty good standard when he took the tape test at Provincial Hall in Phuket City today, watched by an ever-sceptical media.
Those who pass the Phuket tape test should come in under 80 centimetres for women and under 90 centimetres for men.
Phuketwan has so far been unable to confirm reports that when tourists are asked at Phuket International Airport: ''Do You Have Anything to Declare?'' those who fail a tape test will be made to run to their resorts carrying their luggage.
Six organisations - including the Phuket tax office, two public hospitals and Chalong municipal council - have already signed up to run the tape over staff every six months.
A large majority of tourists arriving here are obese, so I guess there'd be a lot jogging down Thepkasattri road with their luggage:-)
