PHUKET: One of the men wanted for allegedly holding up a Phuket City gold shop and escaping with 2.5 million baht in necklaces gave himself up to police today.
The man, known as Kosol, walked in at Phuket City Police Station about 12.40pm.
A widespread hunt had been undertaken on Phuket for Kosol and a companion who robbed the shop holding a fake gun and a hammer on Monday.
Khun Kosol's wife was arrested in Bangkok at a bus station when she arrived from Phuket late on Tuesday with necklets valued at 1.9 million hidden in two shampoo bottles.
She said her husband had committed the gold shop heist in Phuket because she needed a 300,000 baht heart operation.
Police twice attempted to close the net around Khun Kosol, who was allegedly hiding out around the Kathu waterfall district.
Both men were clearly shown on security cameras as they staged the robbery and as they rode away.
The second man, yet to be named, is still on the loose.
