FOUR MEN specialised in breaking into parked cars around the popular tourist part of old Phuket Town, police said yesterday.
Laptop computers, cameras and hard-drives were their favorites, with more than 30 cars broken into, an officer reported.
The technique was to break a side window or a front window with a small hammer, said Police Colonel Wanchai Eakpompid of Phuket City police headquarters.
When raids took place on two homes yesterday morning, police found one unlicenced gun, four laptops, a digital camera, a stolen diamond ring, a torch and stolen hard-drives.
A total of 23 bullets and marijuana were also found, Colonel Wanchai said.
The four operated around Thalang Road, Yaowarat Road and Krabi Road, he added.
A new laptop that cost more than 20,000 baht would bring 2000 baht as stolen goods, one of the gang told him.
''They used the money mostly to have a good time,'' Colonel Wanchai said.
Second-hand shops are being checked for more stolen items and owners will be charged if victims' possessions are found.
Presented to the media yesterday at Phuket City headquarters were Kidsana Chernon, 38, Kulchon Tongsamud, 42, Autapon Chukaew, 21, and Pongpon Boondetpiti, 19.
The four are in jail awaiting bail applications. They have admitted to having been thieves at night.
