Phuket Gains New Guardian at Tachatchai Checkpoint

Phuket Gains New Guardian at Tachatchai Checkpoint

Wednesday, October 16, 2013
PHUKET: The Tachatchai checkpoint at the entrance and exit to Phuket has a new officer on duty with eyes open all the time. The officer accompanies a sign sponsored by Pegas that advises motorists: ''Roll down the windows, turn off your headlights and turn on the inside light.'' It's Phuket's own Checkpoint Charlie.

Could this finally be the answer to sorting out Phuket's corruption problems?

It seems that Checkpoint Charlie is the only police officer who works the night shift.

When I've driven through the checkpoint twice over the past month around 3am (doing a visa-run to Myanmar), this guy was the only officer on duty, and he didn't even bother checking my documents.

Presumably the sign is in English and other languages too? Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question!

Bet he sees about as much as the police officers who can't find the slow lorises, sex shows or iguanas on Bangla.

since the standing policeman is placed there for over 2 months, the duty officers are lazy and not performing and that is why they cannot catch the goldshop robber who robbed the C P goldmaster in Lotus few months ago.
