PHUKET: The Bangkok Hospital group is to invest 600 million baht in a new facility on Phuket, Thai media reports.
The Director of Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Dr Naronongrit Howrongsi, is quoted as saying the scheduled completion date is in early 2014.
It will be the first hospital in southern Phuket - but it probably won't carry the Bangkok Hospital name.
Fifty beds would be available in the first phase with the number growing later to 100 beds, say reports. The facility won't be equipped for major surgery, though.
The site is on Chao Fa Road East, opposite Phuket Villa Chao Fa. Between 200 to 400 patients would be dealt with each day, and fees would be approximately 30 percent lower than those at Bangkok Hospital Phuket to the north, in Phuket City.
Bangkok Hospital Phuket has 200 beds and deals with 700 to 800 outpatients a day, Dr Naronongrit is quoted as saying.
About 30 percent of hospital patients were from overseas, he said.
''Surgery is up 20 percent on last year with Australians and New Zealanders especially coming to Phuket in greater numbers for breast enhancement or breast reduction,'' he said.

Surely any new hospital should be sited in the north of the island.
